Step-by-Step: What Happens in Each Round
1. Registration
CSAB requires a completely fresh registration on csab.nic.in — your JoSAA login and choices do not carry across. You will need your JEE Main 2026 application number, roll number, and password to register. Pay the non-refundable CSAB registration fee at this stage.
2. Choice Filling and Locking
After registration, you can browse the available vacant seats across NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs and build your preference list. List every institute-branch combination you would genuinely accept — in true preference order from most to least preferred. The system uses your choices and rank to allot the best possible seat. Lock your choices before the deadline; unlocked choices are ignored.
3. Round 1 Allotment
Seats are allocated using the same rank-and-reservation framework as JoSAA. Log in to check your allotment result. You then have three options: accept the seat and pay the seat-acceptance fee, wait for Round 2 hoping for a better allotment, or withdraw entirely. Be extremely careful here — the withdrawal rules in CSAB interact with any existing JoSAA seat you may be holding.
4. Round 2 Allotment
Seats freed by Round 1 non-acceptance and any additionally surrendered seats go back into the pool. Round 2 is the final opportunity within the NIT+ system for the 2026 cycle. After Round 2, no further special rounds are typically available.
5. Reporting and Document Verification
Candidates who accept a seat must complete online reporting within the prescribed window and then appear for physical document verification at their allotted institute. Missing this step means forfeiting your seat. Documents typically include your JEE Main scorecard, Class X and XII mark sheets, category certificate (if applicable), and identity proof.
Stay Ahead of the CSAB Deadline
Missing even one CSAB window can end your NIT+ hopes for 2026. We track live seat availability, monitor the schedule, and send you timely alerts so you never miss a step.

- Know your JEE Main 2026 rank and category. This determines which seats are realistically within reach.
- Research which NIT/IIIT/GFTI branches interest you. Past-year closing ranks (labelled as indicative) can help you shortlist options, but do not treat old data as guaranteed 2026 cutoffs.
- Understand the seat-withdrawal rules if you are already holding a JoSAA seat. Read our article on CSAB seat withdrawal and reporting rules before you act.
- Bookmark csab.nic.in and check it daily through the registration and allotment windows.
