CSAB 2026 Eligibility Criteria — Who Can Apply

The criteria mirror the NIT+ system rules you already know from JoSAA, but there are a few specific conditions — especially around nationality, existing seats, and category — that trip students up every year. The Foundation: JEE Main 2026 Rank

CSAB allocates seats in the NIT+ system — the same 31 NITs, 26 IIITs, and approximately 45 GFTIs covered by JoSAA's NIT+ rounds. The allotment is entirely based on your JEE Main 2026 rank (Paper 1 for BTech programmes). There is no separate rank threshold to register for CSAB itself — if your rank made you eligible to compete for NIT+ seats in JoSAA, that same rank carries into CSAB.

What this means practically: if you never qualified for the NIT+ system at all — for instance, because you appeared only in JEE Advanced and never appeared in JEE Main — you are not eligible for CSAB.

Academic Eligibility: Class XII Norms

CSAB uses the standard NIT+ academic eligibility criteria, which are the same as those applied in JoSAA. As a general guideline based on past years:

• General / EWS / OBC-NCL candidates: Minimum 75% aggregate in Class XII (or equivalent qualifying exam), or in the top 20 percentile of their respective board.
• SC / ST / PwD candidates: Minimum 65% aggregate in Class XII.

Category Considerations

CSAB respects the same reservation categories as JoSAA: General (UR), EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, and PwD. Your category determines which seats you are eligible to fill in your choice list and which closing ranks apply to you.

• OBC-NCL candidates: The OBC-NCL non-creamy layer status must be current — certificates issued before a specified date may not be accepted. Check the official notice for the exact validity requirement.
• EWS candidates: An EWS certificate from the appropriate authority is required; income and asset criteria apply.
• PwD candidates: Disability certificates from the relevant medical authority, meeting the specified disability percentage threshold, are required for PwD seat consideration.

What Disqualifies You From CSAB?

• No valid JEE Main 2026 rank (e.g., did not appear, exam was invalidated, or rank was not declared).
• Not meeting the Class XII aggregate or percentile requirement for the NIT+ system.
• Being a foreign national who is not an OCI or PIO holder.
• Having already completed admission to a BTech programme in the current academic year through another route (certain conditions apply; verify from the brochure).
• Being under debarment or disqualification from NIT+ system admissions.

Can a Dropper (Repeat Candidate) Apply?

Yes. Students who are appearing in JEE Main 2026 after a gap year (droppers) are eligible for CSAB, provided they meet all the other eligibility conditions — valid JEE Main 2026 rank, Class XII percentage, and so on. There is no restriction on CSAB participation solely on account of being a repeat candidate.

However, if you passed Class XII in a prior year, verify that the NIT+ academic eligibility rules do not impose a restriction on the year of passing for the specific institutes or programmes you are targeting. Some provisions may apply.
